Gifts in Wills

Gifts in Wills

We invite you to become a Partner for the Future by leaving a gift in your will.  This will become a significant and lasting legacy to Barker College.

Why leave a gift in your will to Barker College?

To develop innovative learning programs, provide scholarships to those who could not ordinarily afford a Barker education, maximise and enhance the skills of our staff, create new facilities; tuition fees alone will never meet all these needs so we rely on your support as a member of our School Community.

Your gift enables the School to confidently build for the future.

Your gift will not affect your present financial circumstances

By leaving a gift in your will that includes the School, you are making a valuable contribution to ensuring Barker’s future without affecting your present financial circumstances.

Your gift, no matter the form or amount, guarantees and strengthens our future

Gifts in wills can vary in form: the remainder of an estate after providing for family and loved ones; a percentage of an estate; a fixed sum; a life insurance policy, property or shares. You can give an asset you no longer need or want. Gifts of property or shares are most welcome. Any such gifts that are allocated to either the Barker College Building Fund or Barker College Scholarship Fund are tax deductible.

Making or revising a will is neither difficult nor expensive

It is essential that you have a will. Surprisingly, many do not. If you have already made your will, you or your solicitor can prepare a codicil, which is a simple and inexpensive amendment to your will. The School has a codicil form professionally drafted for this purpose.

Your opportunity to establish an Endowment Fund

Another option is to establish an Endowment, a fund named in your memory or in the memory of a loved one. The capital remains untouched in perpetuity and the interest of the fund is used for your pre-designated purpose such as a scholarship or bursary.

Take a tour of our School and see what your gift will do

When considering a gift in your will, we welcome you to take a tour of the School and discuss your thoughts with us.

The Mint Gate Society

The Mint Gate Society has been established to honour those members of Barker’s Community who have confirmed their intention to include the School in their will. Members are invited to special School events attended by the Head of School and members of the School Council. It is very important to us to show our appreciation to your commitment so we would encourage you to advise us of your intention. Everyone who notifies us of their gift to Barker College is welcomed as a member into our Mint Gate Society.

How to make a Gift in your Will

Simply download our Intention Form, compete it and return it to Barker's Advancement and Communications Office. A Will is a very personal statement. We recommend that you consult with your Solicitor before either writing a new Will or updating your existing one.

As a starting point, we suggest you use the wording on page 2 of the Gift in Will Intention Form to indicate in your will your intention to make a gift to Barker College. Should you or your Solicitor require further assistance, please contact our Head of Advancement & Communications.
