Leadership and Service

Learning to collaborate and innovate, to solve problems and to provide experiences that engage and inspire is a priority at Barker.

Barker's approach is to prepare its students to become confident leaders in a changing world where complex problems will need creative solutions.

Students are at the centre of the educational experience. At Barker we want to inspire bold and authentic leaders who will exercise their compassion as they develop their God given gifts in service to their local and global communities.

The School provides several initiatives that focus on service partnerships both in the School and that will help to develop the leadership skills of our students for a life beyond Barker.

Service Partnerships is a school-wide approach to service learning that provides all students with opportunities to partner and serve both within the school and beyond. There are many service learning programs at Barker that offer leadership opportunities for all.

Hornsby Connect – our Year 10 students visit this low cost food distribution centre each fortnight and work alongside volunteers to provide support to those experiencing financial hardship in the local community.

Timeout – supporting children with a disability through this student driven basketball program.

Red Shield Appeal - Student volunteers in partnership with Pennant Hills/Cherrybrook Rotary club door knock and collect funds that contribute to a range of community services provided by the Salvation Army

Mentoring and leadership programs that offer a unique opportunity for Senior School students to plan and produce fun and interactive workshops for Junior School students. Valuable leadership principles are taught to our younger students.

Timor-Leste – Barker students are involved in teaching English to children in the local communities, as well as supporting the running of the Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment (RYPEN) - a Youth Leadership Conference coordinated by Rotary International.
