The study of Textiles Technology provides students with the opportunity to produce creative and innovative fashion solutions using a range of textile materials and processes. Investigations, experimentation and project work enable students to become discriminative in their choices of textiles for specific uses. Students explore innovation, smart fabric and the cultural impacts of textiles.
Students are required to produce a design folio documenting the development of ideas, processes and techniques that they use. With a focus on practical skills, majority of student time is spent designing and making projects. The skills in managing a project, designing, communicating and making are easily transferrable to the Fashion Industry and to other design professions

Year 9
Year 9 Textiles Technology equips students with a deep knowledge of both the functional and aesthetic aspects of textiles. By exploring fabrics, coloration, yarns, and fibres, students develop their understanding of material properties and performance, while examining the textile industry's technological impacts on society and the environment. Students develop a range of traditional techniques, tools, and modern machinery, alongside fashion drawing and computer applications to communicate ideas effectively.
Year 10
Year 10 Textiles Technology provides students with the opportunity to explore the balance between the functional and aesthetic aspects of design. By analysing historical, cultural, and contemporary perspectives, students develop understand how textiles impact individual consumers and broader society. They develop critical evaluation skills to judge the quality of construction and design, while learning to justify material selection for specific users. Hands-on skill development is central to the course. Students generate innovative design ideas, decoration techniques, and creatively manipulate various fabrics to produce high-quality textile items.
