Year 7-10

Year 7-10

Year 7

The study of Science in Year 7 is an exciting program that develops students’ scientific knowledge, skills and values and attitudes within broad areas of science. It encompasses the traditional disciplines of Biology, Chemistry, Earth Sciences and Physics. The program is based around a series of hands-on experiments that allow the students to utilize the excellent laboratories of the Foundation Science Centre. The use of computers and data logging instruments is widespread and the docking stations and data projectors in each laboratory allow teachers to access the latest information and scientific applications on the world wide web. The course also involves a week up at The Grange, an outdoor education facility where an ecological study is a major component of the week.

Year 8

The study of Science in Year 8 is an exciting program that develops students’ scientific knowledge, skills and values and attitudes within broad areas of science.

Year 9

The study of Science in Year 9 is an exciting program that develops students' scientific knowledge, skills and values and attitudes within broad areas of science. During the year students have an opportunity to undertake an individual piece of scientific research.

Year 10

The study of Science in Year 10 develops students’ scientific knowledge, skills, values and attitudes within broad areas of science that encompass the traditional disciplines of Biology, Chemistry, Earth Sciences and Physics.  To help facilitate the students’ smooth progression into the senior sciences, Year 10 is taught by teaching teams. Students rotate through the following 4 modules which broadly reflect the courses on offer in Year 11 and 12. Each module is taught within a context that attempts to link in with the students’ experiences. Integrated into each of these modules will also be one or two of the following prescribed focus areas:

  • History of science
  • The nature and practice of science
  • Implications for society and the environment
  • Applications and uses of science
  • Current issues, research and development

These demonstrate the links between science and society, both past and present.
