Design & Technology

Senior School

The Design and Technology Department is committed to providing students with opportunities to engage in innovative practical design activities utilising both traditional and industry standard technologies. Students are encouraged to explore past and present design styles and seek opportunities to design products, systems and environments that will improve the lives of people.

Design & Technology and Industrial Technology students are offered a wide range of experiences which include:

  • Furniture Making

  • Industrial Design

  • Textiles Fashion

  • Jewellery Design

  • Digital Media (Graphic Design, 3D Animation, Architecture, Film and Video)

Students engage in design projects that are relevant and interesting through links with professional designers and the use of Hi-Tech equipment.  This includes CAD/CAM production, 3D printing for rapid prototyping, Laser Cutting, CNC machining and Textiles Sublimation Processes.

Excursions, visiting Museums, Manufacturing Industries, designers and after-school activities are an integral part of the Design and Technology and Industrial Technology courses.  Students are encouraged to be aware of the nature of design and the impact that designers can have upon the world in which they live.

Middle School

Technology, Design & Technology and Industrial Technology students are offered a wide range of experiences which include:

  • Furniture Making
  • Industrial Design
  • Engineering
  • Jewellery
  • Landscape Design
  • Digital Media (Graphic Design, 3D Animation, Architecture, Film and Video)

Students engage in design projects that are challenging and fun.  Each course provides students with a range of experiences to develop their understanding and skills.  The use of Hi-Tech equipment in the realisation of projects enables students to better appreciate processes used in industry and provides them with a more authentic learning experience.  CAD/CAM processes include: 3D Rapid Prototyped models, Laser Cut components and CNC machined products.

Competition and after-school activities are an integral part of the Design and Technology and Industrial Technology experience.
