A Trilogy of Fables

Seek  |  Leap  |  Defeat

Drawing

Tahlia Curnow

A Trilogy of Fables represents three fairy-tale worlds inspired by illustrations from 19th century children’s literature, particularly John Tenniel’s sketches.

Each drawing recontextualises familiar childhood stories, Alice in Wonderland, The Little Mermaid and Rapunzel. By removing the protagonist from each fable, viewers are encouraged to immerse themselves into the image, becoming the protagonist. Each ink pen drawing holds subtle symbols from the fables which are hidden amongst the scenes. The intricate details within each piece are revealed when viewers immerse themselves into the worlds they are presented with.
