I Am Woman
My painting invites the audience to recognise the women in our society and celebrate the power women have taken back from many years of inequality.
In my paintings I have explored this idea through appropriating paintings from art history and made a reflection of women now and to represent the power they hold in choosing who they are, what they want, what they do and the limitless opportunities they have compared to women in the past. I have asked women in my life what they want to do in the future and painted them in these uniforms in appropriations of Botticelli’s Birth of Venus, Munch’s Puberty and Manet’s Luncheon on the Grass.
