Luck of the Draw
It is estimated that each person has between 20 000 and 25 000 genes, inherited from our parents at random, that make up who we are.
Siblings present different combinations of these genes, providing variations in personality, intellect and appearance. My body of work asks the audience to consider genetics as a game of chance through the portrayal of me and my siblings as playing cards. While individual, each sibling is a variation of the same gene pool, a card drawn from a deck at random. In each portrait, I have imprinted each individual’s uniqueness, yet they are forever connected through chromosomal similarities.
