We are Burning

We are Burning is inspired by Dutch Vanitas and the concept of Memento Mori which I utilise and adapt in a contemporary work to explore the ideas of mortality and the fragility of the Australian environment.

My aim for my body of work is to attune my audience to the steady degradation of the Australian landscape that has escalated due to the devastating bushfires last year. Through subtle symbolism which raises ideas concerning decay, lack of time, the infiltration of domestic life, immorality and the fragility of life, I submerge my audience into a piece of work which subtly, yet powerfully evokes how the evil we are inflicting on our environment is finally catching up with us.
