Shoe Dog

Jessica Mikhael

My paintings are an appropriation of historical Renaissance artworks to be viewed in the shape of a Chapel window.

These aim to explore the ethics of making shoes in each various stage of production. This includes focusing on who creates the product, purchases the product, and who sells the product. Each individual artwork depicts one of these steps in production and how collectively humans are exploited and manipulated by those in charge to capitalise profit. Influential artists include Giulio Romano, Jacopo da Pontormo, Fra Angelico, Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni, and Egon Schiele.
