Topophilia (the effective bond between people and place)
Human geographer Yi-Fu Tuan describes topophilia as the “the affective bond between people and place”.
This universal feeling of place attachment, I aimed to capture in my linocuts of Forster, NSW. I have been vacationing there since birth and it is always nostalgic for me, like returning home. The works are from various places in Forster or images of me as a child at Forster and highlight my attachment to this place. Inspired by artists Margaret Preston & Elizabeth Catlett I wanted to create a stylised work that captured the atmosphere and the slower pace of this holidaying environment.
