Von uns gegangen, stets unvergessen –
(Gone but Never Forgotten)

Painting

Jamie Kahn

My body of work is a portrayal of the recessed memories of the only two surviving members of the Kahn family after WW2.

In a series of black and white paintings expressing a family’s tumultuous journey, I convey the duality of absence and loss, with a sense of love and life enduring in the minds of survivors. Here, the larger, central portraits symbolise life whilst the smaller surrounding works symbolise the lives cut short.

The composition demonstrates that the survivors never truly separated themselves from their past, holding onto fragmented memories of happier times; re-living the horrors which tore them apart; and enduring the deep sense of loss.
