Somewhere Beyond the Sea

My work is a series of watercolour artworks that portray the decay of sea creatures.

The use of text (song lyrics) and the depiction of animals trapped in hourglasses, symbolize the potential extinction of much of our ocean life. As human impacts increasingly affect the ocean, I wanted to engage with the audience to provoke thought about the issue.

However I also wanted to suggest that a positive outcome of human influence on the environment is possible in the last artwork, as a starfish can regrow its limbs. The pending question ‘Who will save us?’ leaves the survival of the sea creatures in our hands.
