Beauty in the Mundane

Sculpture

Through a series of ceramic tiles, I have attempted to convey the unique beauty surrounding us everywhere, every day.

To accentuate the beauty in life, I used a series of objects – some simple, some complex, some mundane and some natural to press an impression into a piece of clay.

This technique allows the intricate and unique textures and patterns of the objects to show through in great detail, highlighting to an audience how beauty can be found in the simplest of things. I was inspired by a trip to Vietnam, where I visited countless towns and villages with vibrant and spirited people, who despite not having much saw great beauty in their life and possessions. I have created for my audience a vibrant, colourful and detailed work reflective of the beauty that can be seen all around us.
