State of Denial

Drawing

My body of work reflects a personal connection to the Armenian genocide through ancestry, specifically the experience of my great grandmother, Anna.

Red acrylic paint envelops my focus characters representing the bloodshed and anger passed down through the generations due to any lack of acknowledgement or contrition by the Turkish State.  My great grandmother Anna is central to the artwork as she was only six when the cleansing took place. The portrait of the Armenian Catholicos represents Christianity in a continuous line of Catholicoi dating back to the fourth century. My final artwork is a portrait of my father who represents culture and family connection.
