Barker College is aware that a former casual volleyball coach who was arrested and charged with alleged grooming of an under-aged person from interstate in September 2017, was sentenced last week. This matter has been reported in the media on 1st April 2019 and may be of concern to the community.

At the time of his arrest, the person’s casual contract with the School was suspended. He had held a current Working with Children Check Clearance (NSW) and had completed the School’s mandatory Child Protection course.

The person had also been a former student at the School. It was understood that no Barker student was involved and no further information has come to light.

It is important to remember that the School is always concerned for the well-being of all our students past and present and worked with the Police during the course of the investigation. As a school we care for all, protect all, reach out to all and seek the wellbeing of all.

The School has an established Confidential Support Line (1800 732 296) and a secure online reporting process and encourages its parent community to come forward with any information or concerns.
