The team of Matt Nicholas, Hayden fite, Rhys Macintosh and Erin Rench affirmed the motion 'that emergency workers should have the right to strike', to take out the 2018 ISDA title.  The team won their recent Semi-Final against Abbotsleigh, having defeated St Josephs College and Scots College, to reach the Grand Final.

Our Senior A team – Brandon Yoon, Damian Young, Madeline King and Nic Janjevski – went down narrowly to a good Riverview side to be runners up in the Senior division – an outstanding result for a team that has just got better and better. Our team had the unenviable task of affirming the motion ‘that we should abolish the licencing of occupations’ having to propose a system like Uber for taxi drivers, builders, but also doctors and lawyers. While working incredibly hard to make a consumer-driven system sound attractive, they found it hard to overcome the problems of safety and the apparent ability to help low SES occupations.

32 of the top debating schools in Sydney competed in the ISDA competition.  This is the fifth time in 18 years that Barker College has made the Grand Final, in an increasingly competitive competition.
