The School is aware of the article published on Friday May 6, 2022, in the Sydney Morning Herald regarding the language of the Statement of Faith agreed by the Synod of the Anglican Diocese of Sydney. It is proposed that this Statement apply to new Principals and Members of Council and, amongst other points, affirms the belief that marriage is between a man and a woman.

The clause, which was passed in late 2019, is a Synod decision and does not carry the weight of a Governing Ordinance.

Barker has long cherished traditions to be inclusive, welcoming and supportive of all members of our Community. This will not change.

As well as my responsibilities as a Head of an Anglican school, I carry an important responsibility to ensure the School is characterised by love, grace and compassion – where our students and staff feel safe, supported and respected in their emerging character and identity.

To these great virtues I remain committed and I want to assure our community of students, staff and families that we will seek to uphold, protect and nurture all.

Head of Barker College
