Four Gold Awards presented to one school has never been achieved by a single secondary school before. Barker's Middle School Wind Orchestra were also entered in the same section as the Senior Concert Band – and still won Gold!

Barker's Director of Bands, Andrew McWade, was awarded Conductor of the Festival for the second year in a row.

The NSW School Band Festival has been running since 1962 and is the largest festival of its kind in the country, with several hundreds of school bands participating in it every year. The Festival is a non-competitive event and, rather than being ranked, all bands receive a rating of Gold, Silver or Bronze which reflects their level of achievement for the particular event level in which they are performing.

"We are blessed to have four wind bands in our School." Mr McWade said, "But to have four bands that are achieving performances at the highest level is incredible.

"The cornerstone and the backbone of our music program are the Barker staff and the parents of our musicians and so we thank them for everything that they do. Our students’ success would not be possible without their unwavering support."
