Georgia Donehue

Kimono and Belt

Georgia’s Major Textiles Project provides an update to the traditional Japanese Kimono, to create a more contemporary and functional apparel item.

This work features a screen-printed chrysanthemum motif to create a unique fabric design. Embellishing with random flowers using applique and rice-stitch embroidery. Georgia sourced a beautiful blue fabric to create her own eye-catching piping around the collar of the garment, providing fluid line and direction in the piece. Shibori hand-dyed pieces were patchworked in the Japanese ‘Boro’ style for the Obi belt.
