Custom Timber Armchairs

Sophia’s armchairs were created using a blend of contemporary and traditional techniques.

The balance between function and form was important in this project, and this was nicely achieved through the incorporation of both elegant aesthetics and ergonomics into the design. A slab of Oak timber from a tree that fell in a storm in her own backyard, as well as New Zealand Beech, was used to craft the chairs. The timber was shaped into its elegant and stylish form using a range of modern and traditional tools, with half lap dovetails and mitres being the main joinery methods used.
