Barker has a fine tradition on the sporting field and has produced many State and National champions, including Captains of National teams. Our school teams are renowned for the dedication and commitment.
At Barker all students are involved in sport and Saturday sport is often the highlight of a student's week at school, as it brings a healthy balance to their life. Our aim is to provide students with an enjoyable sporting experience, where excellence is pursued and individual potential realised.
A wide range of competitive and non-competitive sport is available to Middle and Senior School boys. These include Athletics, Basketball, Cricket, Equestrian, Football, Fencing, Mountain Biking, Physical Conditioning, Rugby, Swimming, Squash, Surf Lifesaving, Tennis, Tae Kwon Do, Volleyball and Waterpolo. We have a number of National Level 3 Coaches on staff and our students benefit from their experience and coaching.
Barker also provide its students with the opportunity to travel to other countries and interstate to compete at invitational sporting tournaments. In the past our students have travelled to South Africa, South America, USA, the West Indies and New Zealand, representing their School in a variety of sports.
Strength and Conditioning
We have an experienced, passionate, and dedicated Strength and Conditioning team at Barker. The team works not only within Barker’s two performance gyms, but also outside on the School's multiple fields and venues. Working with teams, and one-on-one with students, the Strength and Conditioning team ensures the students are developing not only stronger bodies, but also stronger minds.
Our Strength and Conditioning team also offer a Barker Performance Program (BPP) to all athletes of all abilities. The goal of BPP is to develop athletes from any sport to become the best athletes possible by providing; personalised programs, prehab and rehab programs, functional movement screens, performance testing, and much more.
The participation in a wide variety of sports provides an opportunity for students to take responsibility for their personal growth by developing qualities, such as self sacrifice, commitment, dedication, courage, self discipline, team work, cooperation and fair play.
